7th Annual Grassroots Awards

The Annual Grassroots Awards, in conjunction with our valued partners,
McDonald’s and The Sunday Mail, is Scottish footballs chance to thank
and celebrate the wonderful efforts of people who give their valuable
time and enthusiasm to provide recreational football opportunities the
length and breadth of our country.

With over 120,000 registered players and many thousands more playing
informally, the role of the coach, administrator, referee and helper is
vital to our game.

The time commitment and passion that our huge football workforce gives
up is unquantifiable, but something the Scottish FA believes must be
recognised and celebrated.

Whether at a local club or school, youth football or adult game, boys
or girls’ football, the game needs the support of energetic and
committed people to flourish and we thank all those who provide their
time to make the game accessible for everyone.

Each week the Sunday Mail will be profiling one of our nominees, with
the winners having the chance to meet Scottish football legend and
McDonald’s Scottish Football Ambassador Kenny Dalglish at our Awards
Evening on the 21st January 2010.

Please take this opportunity to nominate someone you believe has made a
contribution to grassroots football in Scotland.

Winners will be selected from the following categories:

Youth Football
Adult Football
Disability Football
Womens/Girls Football
Team of the Year
Community Club of the Year

Hi

Please find attached the round 4 Scottish Cup draw, could you allocate
referees where applicable. I propose sending out known ties on Monday.

Re this weekends Scottish Cup ties at age groups 1995 and 1994 only, if a
club has a player participating in the inter regional competition they may
have relief for their Scottish Cup fixture. Players must be in inter
regional games at Dundee this Saturday before relief is granted.

I hope this helps

Free Coaching Workshops – Creative Player & Futsal - application form

Please be aware that these in-service workshops are coming up over the next few weeks. The workshops are for coaches who want to further develop their coaching skills and knowledge to provide high quality coaching sessions for their clubs.

There are two key themes running throughout each workshop;

1. Developing Creative Football Players
2. Using Futsal as a tool to develop young players

Why Develop Creative Players?

Over the years Scottish football has been synonymous with exciting and creative players who get fans on the edge of their seats. Players developed naturally in a street environment which has now unfortunately been lost and as a result young players now spend less time practicing individual skills which help creative ability.

This workshop is designed to help encourage coaches to develop creative aspects of players and create more technically able performers. Within the game at whatever age and ability level, the 1v1 situation is central to a player’s development. To enable players to master these 1v1 situations from an attacking perspective, particular focus should be placed on individual technique training, because technical skill forms the foundation for tactical play.

By attending this workshop and encouraging young players to be more responsible for practicing key skills you will be able to develop more complete and technical players.

Workshops will take place on the following dates;

Friday 27th November
Queens Centre, Galashiels (Indoor Hall)
8.00pm – 9.30pm

Friday 4th December
Deans Community High School, Livingston (Indoor Hall) 7.30-9.00pm

Friday 4th December
Dalkeith Campus School (Indoor Hall)
6.30-8.00pm

To confirm your place on these free workshops please return the completed application form and send to, Aidan Forbes, SFA South East Region, Mcarthur Pavilion, 42 Peffermill Road, Edinburgh, EH16 5LL or email southeast@scottishfa.co.uk.

Please call 0131 667 8245 if you have any queries.

19-10-2009

Hope you are well and working hard.
This is a follow on from my previous e-mails regarding the South East regional squad at 13s age group. I now have a date, time and venue for the next 3 week block of coaching sessions which are aimed at those players who are of the standard to win places in the regional squad. The sessions start on Tuesday 10th of November and run from 7.30pm to 9pm.
The sessions will take place on the main grass pitch at the Meggatland complex in Edinburgh. I would be grateful if you could circulate the details to the clubs in West Lothian who you think may have players talented enough to make the regional squad.
Over the 3 week block the players will take part in a variety of skills, drills and small sided games designed to allow the participants to show the skills and game awareness they possess.
If you or interested clubs need more information please feel free to get back to myself or Mark Munro.

Thanks Jim Grant
