Warriors in the Community Raise £4,000

Warriors in the Community held their annual fundraiser on Thursday 2nd June and raised £4,000 with each player taking part in the “Hotshot Powershot” – a competition that tests each player by having them kick the football as hard as they can … giving the hardest working fundraisers an advantage.

Players competed in separate year groups for 2 awards – the most powerful shot and the Hotshot Trophy (this went to the player who “bought” speed – every £5 raised gained the player a bonus 1mph added to their kicking speed e.g. £25 raised gained a 5mph advantage). Over 200 players from Warriors in the Community’s Young Maroons, Girls Young Maroons, Cumbernauld Maroons, Airdrie Maroons and Community Select Teams took part in the event.

All players received a certificate to show their fastest shot and whilst some age groups participated in the Hotshot event the other age group players took part in small sided games on the main park at Ochilview Park.

All funds raised on the night are going back into improving Warriors in the Community with more than £3,000 going towards the purchase of 200 +  new footballs, three sets x 50 bibs, numerous cones and specialist speed and agility equipment.

Warriors in the Community would like to thank all those who helped raise sponsorship, all coaches who came along to help out, Julia Gordon for opening and running the pie hut and to Dave Anderson at Hotshots who ran the Hotshot event.

Kirkwood F.C. fly the flag for WLAYFC in Holland!

Kirkwood F.C. 15's returned home deserved winners from a football tournament in Arnhem, being the only undefeated team on the day. The slower pace and less physical approach of most of the Dutch teams suited Kirkwood's passing game very well, allowing for lots of open play and resulting in plenty of attacking opportunities.
The boys all played well over the friendly matches we had on the Friday and Saturday and especially well in the tournament itself on the Sunday and were a credit to the club over the whole weekend. Parks and facilities were fantastic!!
