Kirkwood F.C. fly the flag for WLAYFC in Holland
Kirkwood F.C. fly the flag for WLAYFC in Holland!
Kirkwood F.C. 15's returned home deserved winners from a football tournament in Arnhem, being the only undefeated team on the day. The slower pace and less physical approach of most of the Dutch teams suited Kirkwood's passing game very well, allowing for lots of open play and resulting in plenty of attacking opportunities.
The boys all played well over the friendly matches we had on the Friday and Saturday and especially well in the tournament itself on the Sunday and were a credit to the club over the whole weekend. Parks and facilities were fantastic!!

THREE WLAYFC TEAMS IN SCOTTISH CUP FINALS
Four of the SYFA’s seven Scottish Challenge Cup Finals take place this week-end (April 30th / May 1st) at the Excelsior Stadium home of Airdrie United FC. The WLAYFC is well represented with 3 teams reaching the deciding ties.
The 13s game between Fauldhouse Foxes and Syngenta Juveniles (KO 1pm – Saturday 30th April) sees history being made with the first ever all WLAYFC Scottish Cup Final. Syngenta Juveniles have had a remarkable season to date by also reaching both County and Regional Cup finals (both in May), still heavily involved in the “A” league championship race with the Jim Brady Cup still to come! Fauldhouse Foxes have also reached the County Cup Final, are in league title contention and have also progressed to the latter stages of the Jim Brady Cup. The teams have met once this season in a close fought league match with Syngenta coming out on top 3-2.
An intriguing and highly competitive match is in store for sure. Good luck to everyone involved.
The Under 19s final on Sunday May 1st (KO 3.45pm) features WLAYFC outfit Whitburn FCA who face Bonnyton Thistle FC. Whitburn have also reached the County Cup Final and are still very much in the mix for the 19s league title.
The WLAYFC would like to wish all three sides the best of luck and good fortune and hope they all enjoy their big day out.
Admission prices are £4.00 adults and £1.00 kids/OAPs – this gives entry to the two finals on each day. Other games are; Saturday 30th April, a 3.30pm KO for Celtic BC v Campsie Black Watch (21s) and on Sunday 1st May a 1.00pm KO for Goldenhill BC v Banks O’Dee Albion (17s)

Annual Dinner
Annual Dinner

Front Row Iain Shaw, Chick Young, Jimmy Stirling, Jim Ferguson
After the poor response to the dinner and a bit if pushing of tickets by the committee and match secretaries in the end it turned into a really great night starting with the ever popular MC Sandy Penman, as ever Sandy was his usual witty self keeping the crowd laughing in between the guest speakers. Firstly a great stand in in the shape of BBC sports-sound correspondent Mr Chic Young at very short notice due to the recent illness to Dick Campbell and our best wishes to Dick for a speedy recovery, Chic was slow to start but soon got in to his list of stories which had the crowd listening with intent and laughing loudly. Our 2nd speaker was Mr Jimmy Stirling what a class act, the sign of a good comedian is when you cannot remember his jokes and you look around the hall and the majority of people are wiping the tears of laughter from their face, Jimmy was in his element and continued to keep the jokes coming. I have had feedback since the dinner and they are all about Jimmy Stirling. The icing on the cake was that we even made a profit of £600.00 so again thanks to everyone who contributed to the dinner in any way.
